Cannot call if Phone is connected with power adapter
Hello everyone,
I recently bought the VOIP Unlock key and I'm using my own Linksys WRTP54G router which has 2 phone outputs.
My phone is connected on the Phone Line output #1 and #2 is empty. This is NOT cordless phone. This is wired phone.
My phone works incoming and outgoing without any problem when my old school type phone is not connected with power adapter (mean no display).
But as soon as I connect the power adapter to the phone. I cannot call but I can receive the call. As soon as I call, I hear the following message "This call is not covered by your test plan." Then if I remove the power adapter from the phone. I can call without any problem (No more message). This is the only phone connected in my house.
Well I made it work 1 or 2 times when the power adapter was connected to the phone by doing the following. But then few minutes later I hear the same message.
1) Make sure the power adapter is not connect to the phone. Only RJ45 cable from Linksys WRTP54G router Phone port#1 to the phone RJ45 connector.
2) Connect the power adapter to the phone.
3) Reboot the Linksys WRTP54G router.
4) Call from the phone right after rebooting the router.
Actual Result: I can call without any problem, so no more "This call is not covered by your test plan" message. But after few minutes later I can’t call and hear the same message.
Is there is any setting in the Linksys WRTP54G router that I need to setup properly? I want to keep the same old phone for some personal reason.
Some information to troubleshoot:
Router: Linksys WRTP54G
Router firmware: WRTP54G-3.1.27 (same as SIP User Agent)
VOIP Unlock key: Show as "Registered" in the router for Line1. Line2 currently not used (empty).
Internet Service Provider: Through cable, 5.23 MB download speed, 1.23 MB upload speed
Actual Look Like phone: Please see the picture http://img84.imageshack.us/img84/7060/phonex.jpg
Any help would be appreciated.

Re: Cannot call if Phone is connected with power adapter
It sounds like the phone is changing the actual dialled number in some way. I know with some phones you can put in your local dialling code and it will take the area code off. IE if you call 613-366-xxxx it will actually dial 366-xxxx.
That message is a FPL message, so I would look in your call logs online and see what numbers are being dialled according to FPL. If you see calls with the 613 bit missing, then look in your phones settings for anything that will change what is being dialled.
I really don't think there is any problem with your ATA, I think it is more to do with the smart side of your phone changing something. Your logs should give you a clue. Obviously when there is no power to the phone it is just a dumb phone so it won't change the number dialled.

It is your are code settings in the phone. mine is same. Just check the phone settings, one way I figure out is that if some one calls me and the caller ID does not contain the area code then the setting needs to be changed back. I do know but this keeps reverting off and on. so check your phone

Re: Cannot call if Phone is connected with power adapter
To awan
Yes I did that setting in my phone. My new number here in Laval, Quebec start with area code 438 with freephoneonline and in my phone setting I have 3 different area code is set:
Following are configured in my phone setup:
1st area code: 438
2nd area code: 514
3rd area code: 450
To Jake
Well, when you call someone and its goes to that message (This call is not covered by your test plan). I don't think any logs on the FPL server is generated because
the call has not been placed. I checked the logs and I don't see anything.
By the way, I just did the test by connecting the power adapter to the phone and
then did outgoing calls and income calls without any problem while my power adapter is connected. Then did another incoming and outgoing tests call after 15 mins later and everything seem to be OK. Will see if anything will be happens after few hours.
I did a test yesterday and as soon as connect the power adapter, no outgoing call.
Anyway thanks to both of you for the information's.
If something comes up again. I will report here.

Re: Cannot call if Phone is connected with power adapter
I want to clarify another thing because I'm new to the VOIP service.
Is it possible to register the Line2 on my router with the same username and password (same VOIP unlock key) to use 2nd wired phone? Is there are any down side please let me know.
Thank you

Re: Cannot call if Phone is connected with power adapter
It won't work, you can only register one device at a time to FPL. Having said that, you can register more than one device, but they will keep stealing registration from each other and you won't really know which one will ring if any. It's best practice to only have one device registered.manu123 wrote:I want to clarify another thing because I'm new to the VOIP service.

If you want to connect more than one phone, just use a line splitter from the Dollar Store and plug both phones in. Like many here, I have connected my ATA to my house jacks and plug my phones in that way.

I want to also use the FPL service at another location and I have already bought the 2nd VOIP Unlock key. But here I want to use Cordless phone and more then 2 phones. So in these case, can I use the 3-Handset DECT 6.0 phone?
Re: Cannot call if Phone is connected with power adapter
3 phones will be fine. A 3 handset phone is ideal as it only counts as one phone.
This is probably an extreme, but plug something like this in first and then you can plug a few phones into that. http://www.thesource.ca/estore/product. ... ct=2790410
The 2 or 3 port splitters are probably enough for you.
With regards to the phones you plug in, there isn't really anything special about VOIP - just treat it the same as you would normal phones. If you find that some phones do not ring on incoming calls, it could be you have overloaded it - but to do that you would have to plug in a fair few (probably 6 or more) phones. Multi handset phones just count as one though.

Re: Cannot call if Phone is connected with power adapter
I want to clarify this also. In my Linksy WRTP54G router under registered Line1 has:
A) Supplementary service setting set as follow:
CW Setting: Yes
Block ANC Setting: No
CID Setting: Yes
Dist Ring Setting: Yes
Block CID Setting: No
DND Setting: No
CWCID Setting: Yes
Message Waiting: No
Question: Should set all these setting to Yes?
B) Call Forward settings:
Cfwd All Dest: empty (no value)
Cfwd No Ans. Dest: empty (no value)
Cfwd Busy Dest: empty (no value)
Cfwd No Ans Delay: 20
Question: Should i change the value 20 to some lower value or keep the same?
C) Ring settings:
Default Ring: 1
Hold Reminder Ring: 1
VMWI Ring Splash Len: 0
Default CWT: 1
Call Back Ring: 1
Question: Do I need to change any of theses values to some other values?
Thanks

Re: Cannot call if Phone is connected with power adapter
A) Supplementary service setting set as follow:
CW Setting: Yes
Block ANC Setting: No Yes will block anonymous calls
CID Setting: Yes
Dist Ring Setting: Yes
Block CID Setting: No Yes will block your outgoing CID (which doesn't really work with FPL, they send your number anyway)
DND Setting: No Yes will put the ATA into Do Not Disturb, and your will not get any incoming calls
CWCID Setting: Yes
Message Waiting: No Yes will make your MWI flash. This should change by itself when you get a message
Question: Should set all these setting to Yes?
B) Call Forward settings:
Cfwd All Dest: empty (no value)
Cfwd No Ans. Dest: empty (no value)
Cfwd Busy Dest: empty (no value)
Cfwd No Ans Delay: 20
Question: Should i change the value 20 to some lower value or keep the same? This setting is only if you forward calls from within the ATA which you don't have anything set - so this is a moot point
C) Ring settings:
Default Ring: 1
Hold Reminder Ring: 1
VMWI Ring Splash Len: 0
Default CWT: 1
Call Back Ring: 1
Question: Do I need to change any of theses values to some other values? I don't see why. You probably know you need to change them if you had to. The default settings should be fine

My last post was actually his post with my suggestions added in RED, sorry if that wasn't clear. I thought this would be the best way to answer his questions with a bit of explanation to go along with it.

Not you, there is some one else asking for three phones, cordless phones, that is the one I referred to.
Sorry I misread, same person asking a different question, in same thread.
